How To Import Existing Blog Posts On Medium For Extra Traffic?

Drive Extra traffic from Medium

It's not so long since Twitter co-founder Evan Williams developed medium.com, in 2012.
But it's growing very fast, and almost everyone knows about it now. (I mean peoples like you and me.) The image below is a solid proof of it:

Alexa Rank of Medium.com

Many of us call it a Social Networking site. I say it a Socialized Blogging Platform with some restrictions. And there are many peoples who think the same.

So, according to me, it's a socialized blogging platform and I'll take it, in that way. Meanwhile, Did you know? Blogger recently came up with it's 20 New Variants of Responsive Blogger Themes.

Okay, Now let's get to the point! As you are reading this post, I'm sure that you are a blogger.

And since you are a blogger. I assume that you already know about, generating extra traffic by Guest Posting.

We will be applying the same technique here, with a twist. Since here we will be importing our existing old blog posts, this question may arise in your mind...

Hey, Bishnu what about the Duplicate content? Don't you think that google will penalize it?

Well, Medium takes care of that by implementing the CANONICAL URL method.

Medium links to the original blog posts with a link at the bottom of the each story. And also adds...

<link rel="canonical" href="your old blog post URL here " />

in the <head> tag to take care of SEO.

The point is, stop worrying - start posting. Like we call them blog posts, They call it Stories on medium.

You can also create Publications which is like a facebook page assigned to your individual account. The publications are the collection of stories by various writers and editors under the control of an Owner i.e., The Creator.

If you create one, then you will be the Owner of that publication and you can manage Writers and Editors to that publication. (like Page Admin on Facebook)

I would recommend that create your own publication and publish each posts under them. Like i created, It's IT ADDA! & Motivesta!

It's IT ADDA! - Medium Publication

The benefit of publishing stories under a publication is that both of you and the publication will be in the limelight.

Readers will be seeing the profile of both of you and your publication. And they will also be able to follow you and your publication right from the story. It's the situation like --- "Hunting two targets with a single bullet".

Now without wasting any more time on the logic side. Let's jump to the steps of the process...

Step 1: First of all "Click on the Profile Icon" at the top right corner after logging into your medium account.

Step 2: Now "Click on Stories" as shown below on the screenshot...

Step 6: Now the preview/editing window will be opened for imported post/story. If you want to change the title, then Click on the title to edit it. (see no, 1 in the screenshot below).

If you need some changes on the post edit them as well in the body section of the story/imported post. (see no. 2 in the screenshot below)

After completing the editing of the title and the post body. "Click on the 3 dots (...)" at the top right corner of the page, (see no, 3 in the screenshot below)

Customize the post on Medium

Step 7: Now Click on the Add Publication to assign your story to a publication of your own or others (If you are invited as a writer). This is an optional step but I recommended you to do this as it increases the value of the post.

After adding your story to a publication, Click on Customize title/subtitle to customize the title and subtitle of the story if you want. If the title and subtitle are okay, proceed to the next step.

Now, Click on Customize Link to customize the link/URL of the story for SEO purpose. (See the screenshot below)

Step 8: After clicking on Customize Link, Choose the Custom option and type the custom text that you want to add to your URL and Click on Save. See the screenshot below for the demonstration:
